HEALTH AND MEDICATION
What if my child is / gets sick?
We ask that children stay away from the Centre for a minimum of 24 hours after displaying any of the following symptoms:
- A high temperature – 38ºc or above
- Inflamed throat or eyes
- An unidentified rash
- Vomiting or diarrhea
Children will be sent home if they display these symptoms, or if they are not able to participate fully in the days activities. In some instances, a doctors clearance certificate may be required before a child returns to the Centre. Full fees are required when your child is either sent home sick or is kept at home due to illness or any other reason. You are required to phone the centre to let staff know that your child will be absent.
Can my child receive medication during the day?
Medication is divided into 3 categories.
1- Medication used for first aid that is not ingested e.g. Arnica cream, antiseptic liquid and Calendula cream. Permission for staff to administer this type of medication has been granted on your child’s enrolment form.
2- Prescription medication e.g. antibiotics, ear/eye drops or non prescription e.g. paracetamol, cough syrup. Parents must sign the medicine register daily for this type of medication.
3- Prescription medicine e.g. inhalers, epilepsy medication, or non prescription medicine e.g. antihistamines used for the treatment of an ongoing pre-diagnosed condition. Parents must sign an “on-going Medication Form” and discuss the condition and medication with the Centre manager. Action plans will be required for allergies and asthma.
What happens if my child gets hurt?
All of our permanent staff are trained in First Aid. If your child is hurt we will ensure your child is well taken care of and you will be notified. An Accident and Illness report will be completed for you to sign when you collect your child at the end of the day.
What happens if my child is absent?
For children under 3 years, there is a 50% discount for twice the number of your enrolled days (e.g. 2 enrolled days = 4 days at a 50% discount, 5 enrolled days = 10 days at a 50% discount.) This includes statutory holidays and sick leave. This is renewed each year on 30th November. For children who are accessing the 20hrs ECE there are no leave entitlements.
